Radiators set the standard for heating homes across Ann Arbor during the early 1920s and ‘30s. They took up a large amount of space, but they rewarded homeowners with a convenient place to dry snow-soaked pants, gloves and mittens.
As hot water and steam rose through the circuit, the pipes would undoubtedly let all within earshot know the radiators and boilers were working. Long after the furnace clicked off, the hot water remained in the radiators, warming the home.
Today’s boilers provide even greater efficiency with close to no mechanical vocalizations. Radiators, too, evolved, growing smaller, yet providing the same great gentle heat. New technologies allow for in-wall radiant heat, baseboards and in-floor radiant heat, great for bathrooms. Speaking of which, we also installed radiant heat towel warmers, perfect on a cold January day.
Boilers adapt to multiple zones, too. They can be tied into smart-home temperature control systems, making monitoring easier. Today’s boilers provide great efficiency too. Most are rated above a 90 percent annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE).
As we are Michigan’s oldest plumbing company, operating since 1857, we’ve installed every type of boiler known. If you have an older boiler with a questionable past or want to switch to the comforts of a new one, give us a call. We’d be more than happy to install a new one for you. All new installations come with one-year free maintenance. We also offer a Service Agreement on any old equipment. It covers annual draining, pilot light assessment, and checkup.
